• Compressors available for a wide range of refrigerants
• Ceremonial presentation to Polish trading partner
Sindelfingen/Schkeuditz, 04.12.2013. BITZER celebrates another milestone: the specialist for refrigeration compressors is proud to announce the production of the 100,000th NEW ECOLINE reciprocating compressor at its Schkeuditz plant. BITZER presented the compressor to its Polish trading partner Berling S.A.. Thus the new generation of the ECOLINE range is seamlessly continuing the success story begun by its predecessor.
“Our NEW ECOLINE has had a very good reception from customers and has quickly established itself thanks to its wide range of applications”, proclaims Volker Stamer, Director of Stationary Products at a small celebration to mark the making of the 100,000th reciprocating compressor since the start of production as recently as April 2013.
“The latest products ideally meet market requirements. Their compatibility with predecessor models is a great advantage”, stresses Hanna Berling, Chairman of the Management Board of Berling S.A.. Berling has been a partner of BITZER since 1992 and has been received the Distributor of the Year award on several occasions. BITZER developed the compressor at the international skills centre for reciprocating compressors, which is based at the Schkeuditz plant. To augment production in Germany, global production operations have recently been successfully launched at manufacturing facilities in China, the USA and Brazil.
With displacements ranging from four to 221 m3/h, the NEW ECOLINE series offers increased efficiency coupled with an increased range of applications, rendering it suitable for all standard refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump technology. It makes an ideal replacement for existing equipment because there is no need to modify the mounting hole or change the pipe connections. BITZER has improved the efficiency (COP) of the entire NEW ECOLINE range by up to six per cent with medium temperature applications, and at the low condensing temperature which is important for the annual coefficient of performance by no less than 12 percent as compared with predecessor models.
Choice of three motor versions
Motor version 2 is designed for operation as a universal compressor for medium and low temperature applications in all climate zones, even at tropical ambient temperatures. Meanwhile, motor versions 1 or 3 are intended for use with heat pumps, for medium temperature applications with R134a and for special applications.
The new compressor is highly versatile in its use. Apart from R134a, it is available with various other refrigerants, for instance R404A, R407A, R407C, R407F, R507A and R290 and R1270. Special compressors are only now needed for high pressure refrigerants such as CO2 (R744) and R410A. In applications involving R404A, the new range extends to the R22's application limit, being usable at temperatures up to Tc = 62º Celsius. With motor version 2 using R404A, evaporation up to 0º Celsius is possible. Thus all medium and low temperature applications can be operated using a single compressor type.
Another major advantage of the NEW ECOLINE series is the modern capacity control system. Reciprocating compressors are particularly suitable for speed control via frequency inverter, which improves system efficiency. In addition, all four-, six- and eight-cylinder models can be equipped with a highly flexible and efficient mechanical power control system.

Five days of concentrated knowledge November 2013
Choosing the right refrigerants, correct error analysis – and fast sports cars: there was a lot going on at this year’s BITZER International Refrigeration Seminar in November. More than 60 participants from all over the world attended the seminar, which was held for the second time this year. The training session was divided into two teams, one with a focus on screw compressors and the other on reciprocating compressors from the BITZER range. In both groups, it was five days of practice, practice and more practice.
In addition to basic information about technological highlights and CO2 applications as well as the necessary safety aspects, the reciprocating compressor training course focused on practical training on the ECOSTAR controller. Here, participants had the opportunity to lend a hand in realistic conditions. Walter Rebstock, Manager of After Sales Services at BITZER in Rottenburg, talked to the screw compressor team about ‘Commissioning, Failure Analysis and Service Work’.
But there was plenty of time for fun too: on an excursion to the nearby Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim, the participants were able to take a look at fast sports cars, old locomotives and legendary aircraft. The programme also included a visit to the BITZER screw compressor factory in Rottenburg and a tour of the SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen art museum.
Due to the high demand, BITZER is planning to offer four BITZER International Refrigeration Seminars in 2014 – twice as many as before. By then, the organisers will have made a few alterations to the seminar concept. But some things will remain the same: all the participants will leave with lots of practical knowledge and new insights.

Twelve percent greater cooling capacity
The NEW ECOLINE series offers both increased efficiency and wider application limits, and is also compatible with its predecessor compressor. We have succeeded in improving the entire range’s coefficient of performance (COP) – in the case of the condensing temperature, which is important for the annual coefficient of performance, this has been no less than 12 percent. The compressors are now even more versatile. In addition to R134a, they can now be used with refrigerants such as R404A, R407A, R407C, R407F and R507A. We have succeeded in raising the new R404A’s application limit to the condensing temperature of previous R22 systems. This permits the replacement of HCFC refrigerants even in the hottest regions.
Wide application range, low sound levels
With cooling capacities ranging from 27 to 51 kW at 50 Hz and climatic conditions, the new ORBIT 6 Series scroll compressors’ high degree of isentropic efficiency means they offer a wide application range and impressively low sound levels. Their displacements of between 20 and 38 cubic meters per hour make them particularly suitable for air conditioning systems and heat pumps. The ORBIT 8 Series for R410A offers outstanding efficiency, smooth running and reliability. Thanks to their design characteristics, these compressors achieve the lowest sound levels in their class.
Compact and powerful: the ECOSTAR
BITZER has refined the control and evaluation software for the ECOSTAR range’s condensing units. As a result, the ECOSTAR can be monitored conveniently from your laptop or tablet via Modbus. Furthermore, every two minutes a data log automatically records the figures for the past four weeks. The ECOSTAR is so compact that it only takes about one-third of the space required by a multicompressor refrigeration system of comparable performance. Furthermore, thanks to plug-and-play technology, it is very fast to install.
NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED
The NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor features an integrated, suction gas-cooled frequency inverter that can be infinitely adjusted, making it possible to reduce fluctuations in suction pressure and cycling rates and thus lower energy costs. Using suction gas to cool the operating elements of the frequency inverter ensures that electrical components remain at optimum temperature, rendering a fan superfluous.
CSV: variable and efficient
The three screw compressors of the CSV range are designed for use in air conditioning systems for buildings, in heat pumps and for industrial and process refrigeration. With an exceptionally high ESEER value of over five, the CSV series is unrivalled among air-cooled chillers with dry expansion. One of the compressor’s unique strengths is its high energy efficiency. The frequency inverter is integrated into the compressor, carefully fine-tuned in the factory and configured for maximum efficiency.
Optimised ECOSTAR series sets new benchmarks October 2013
BITZER ECOSTAR – next-generation condensing units
• BITZER equips condensing units with new technological features
• Innovative software and hardware ensure exceptional user-friendliness
• NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED reciprocating compressors ensure maximum energy efficiency in the ECOSTAR
Sindelfingen/Schkeuditz, 30/10/2013. Optimum energy efficiency, comprehensive features, ease of use: the BITZER ECOSTAR is setting new benchmarks in the segment of compact air cooled condensing units. BITZER has continuously further developed the tried-and-tested ECOSTAR technology, which now offers a wide variety of new features.
Improvements include greater ease of use: both the software for controlling the system and the software for analysing the operating data have been optimised. A data log measures all 19 parameters of the system every two minutes and stores the values for a period of four weeks. Via Modbus, this measuring data can be conveniently accessed using a tablet or laptop.
The pre-installed monitoring system ensures operation reliability, for instance, by continuously monitoring the system’s application limits and automatically sending out warnings about potential liquid slugging.
A straightforward online interface simplifies programming and system adjustment and conveniently shows current operating and status information directly on the ECOSTAR display or via Wi-Fi on your computer.
The hardware also offers an extensive range of new features, one of which can be found in the heart of the robust weather protective housing: a NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED reciprocating compressor ensures high cooling capacities. The ECOSTARs are therefore even more versatile and compatible with the full range of conventional refrigerants.
NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED ensures maximum energy efficiency
The NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED also delivers maximum energy efficiency thanks to infinite speed control based on a frequency inverter. The operating display is now larger and supports seven languages, including Russian, Finnish and Turkish. The two biggest ECOSTAR models, 4DES and 4CES, also feature mini-channel condensers on board. This condenser technology allows us to significantly reduce the refrigerant charge.
One of the few things that haven’t changed is activation of the BITZER condensing unit: All ECOSTAR components are fully pre-installed and preset.

NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED – lower energy costs meet higher performance
• NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED – 70 per cent higher cooling capacity
• ORBIT 6 – efficiency for a whole host of applications
• CSV – exceptional part-load efficiency and intelligent self-regulation
Sindelfingen/Leuven-Haasrode, 10/09/2013. Energy-saving, compact and low-maintenance – these are the primary benefits of the three innovative compressor series that BITZER will be showcasing at the Climatechno trade fair in Leuven-Haasrode, Belgium, on 10 and 11 October (stand no. 79). With over 3,000 employees in 90 countries, BITZER is a refrigerant compressors specialist developing and producing a wide range of screw, scroll and reciprocating compressors as well as pressure vessels for air conditioning and refrigeration systems. These are suitable for a wide variety of applications, whether stationary or mobile.
Lower energy costs meet higher performance
The NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor features an integrated, suction gas-cooled frequency inverter that can be infinitely adjusted, making it possible to reduce fluctuations in suction pressure and cycling rates and thus lower energy costs. Using suction gas to cool the operating elements of the frequency inverter ensures that electrical components maintain an optimum temperature and makes fans and regular maintenance unnecessary. Operating above the supply frequency makes it possible to increase the overall cooling capacity of the compressor by up to 70 percent during peak load periods compared to operations within the supply frequency.
Compact and highly efficient
The five models of the new ORBIT 6 scroll compressor series feature a cooling capacity between 27 and 51 kW at 50 Hz and climate conditions and boast high isentropic efficiency levels over a wide range of applications and low noise levels. The compact, highly efficient compressors provide a delivery rate between 20 and 38 cubic metres per hour and were designed specifically for use in air conditioning systems and heat pumps. BITZER designed the ORBIT 6 compressors to consistently offer high system efficiency in full and part-load conditions such as those resulting from highly variable loads and ambient temperatures in climatic and heat pump applications. This results in very high EER, ESEER/IPLV and SCOP values with especially low annual operating costs. This compressor series is suitable for air conditioning applications with condensing temperatures up to 68 °C and heat pump applications with evaporation temperatures as low as –20 °C. The ORBIT 6 was designed for use with R410A refrigerant.
Space-saving and low-maintenance
BITZER will also be introducing the three screw compressors in its CSV series at Climatechno, which were designed specifically for the following applications: chillers for air conditioning systems, heat pumps and industrial and process cooling. With the exceptionally high ESEER value of over five, the CSV series is unrivalled when it comes to air cooled chillers with dry expansion. One of the compressor’s unique strengths is its high energy efficiency. The frequency inverter with wide frequency band is integrated into the compressor, carefully fine-tuned in the factory and configured for maximum efficiency. The compact unit requires very little space, whilst refrigerant-cooled electronics ensure maximum operational reliability and low maintenance, which in turn reduces life cycle costs. It also helps that each compressor knows exactly what its application limits are: if it exceeds its specified parameters, it first sends a warning message to the overriding system regulator and then turns itself off should the situation continue. The CSV series can be combined with BITZER’s conventional CSH and CSW compact screw compressors in typical system configurations, thus considerably increasing flexibility in terms of full and part-load performance. All models in the CSV series are designed for use with R134a refrigerant.
Ronald Bekker, Managing Director of BITZER Benelux: ‘Climatechno is Belgium’s most important trade fair for refrigeration and air conditioning technology. It’s gaining more and more international recognition and has a reach that expands far beyond the country’s borders. Here we meet with business partners, showcase our technical innovations and introduce our service concept that complements our products. This year, intelligent refrigeration and air conditioning applications will take centre stage.’

Highlights of BITZER’s presence at RHVAC 2013 are the latest refinements to compressors of the ROADSTAR, NEW ECOLINE and OCTAGON compressors for transcritical CO2 applications, as well as ORBIT 6 and 8 and NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED.
ROADSTAR passes toughness test
As the name indicates, ROADSTAR models are designed for mobile air conditioning applications. At the beginning of 2013 worldwide series production of the revised product line was launched after the reciprocating compressors passed their toughness test, during which they were subjected to over 96 million kilometres, taking in every climate zone. The ROADSTAR’s great strength is its flexibility. It is available as a four- or six-cylinder compressors, as well as with eight different displacements, so that it offers the ideal component for every application.
The NEW ECOLINE Series offers both increased efficiency and wider application limits, as well as fitting precisely into existing systems as a replacement part. The compressors are now even more versatile in their use. In addition to R134a they can now be used with other refrigerants such as R404A, R407A, R407C, R407F and R507A. We have succeeded in raising the new R404A’s application limit to the condensing temperature of previous R22 systems. This permits the replacement of HCFC refrigerants even in the hottest regions.
Series for transcritical CO2 applications
On the basis of the OCTAGON compressor series BITZER has developed its own range designed to meet the specific requirements of transcritical CO2 applications. The wide application range permits their use in a great variety of system variants. The new models have displacements of up to 25.6 cubic metres per hour and offer high levels of energy efficiency due to such factors as their good gas flow control, super-efficient working valves and special drive gear geometry.
Wide application range, low sound levels
With cooling capacities ranging from 27 to 51 kW at 50 Hz and climatic conditions , the new ORBIT 6 Series scroll compressors’ high degree of isentropic efficiency means they offer a wide application range and impressively low sound levels. Displacements of between 20 and 38 cubic metres per hour make them particularly suitable for air conditioning systems and heat pumps. The ORBIT 8 Series for R410A offers outstanding efficiency, smooth running and reliability. Thanks to their design characteristics these compressors achieve the lowest sound levels in their class.
Infinite capacity control
NEW ECOLINE VARISPEED semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors are fitted with an inbuilt suction gas-cooled frequency inverter which permits infinite capacity control. This cuts energy costs thanks to the reduced suction pressure fluctuations and cycling rates. The suction gas cooling of the frequency inverter’s operating components ensures that the electrical components are kept at optimum temperature and renders superfluous both fans and regular maintenance.

Optimised reciprocating compressors for vehicle applications September 2013
Cutaway model of the BITZER ROADSTAR
• Reciprocating compressors further optimised
• Reliable on more than 96 million kilometres of testing
• ROADSTAR at the starting line at the Olympic Games in Sochi
Sindelfingen, 09/04/2013. The BITZER SE Group has optimised its compressors for use in vehicle air conditioning applications and began manufacturing the ROADSTAR on four continents at the beginning of 2013.
Bus drivers should always keep a cool head when behind the wheel. And it goes without saying that passengers appreciate it when they can sit in an air-conditioned vehicle. That’s why bus air conditioning is so important, particularly in regions with high temperatures. BITZER has continued further optimising its reciprocating compressors and began manufacturing the ROADSTAR all over the globe at the beginning of 2013, including in Brazil, China, Germany and the US. The strengthened drive gear and its innovative surface treatment increase the level of reliability and extend the service life of the compressor, even in demanding conditions. The integrated oil-collecting tank also simplifies maintenance and collection of the oil, which is isolated in very small amounts and required for lubrication and sealing as well as cooling the shaft seal. Numerous tests have confirmed the reliability of the compressor: experts at the BITZER competence centre for reciprocating compressors in Schkeuditz (Germany) sent more than 700 ROADSTAR compressors to the roads for field testing in Brazil, Europe, India, Iran, Mexico and the US. In various climates, the ROADSTAR covered over 96 million kilometres in total by December 2011. Thanks to the optimisation measures, there wasn’t even a single failure. The reliability and performance also impressed the customers: ‘We were using more than 160 compressors and able to rely on all of them at all times, even in the extreme conditions of the Middle East,’ emphasises Paul-Rainer Hoffman, General Manager of Spheros Middle East, an established manufacturer of bus air conditioning systems. That’s why the ROADSTAR will also be participating in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi – it’s already demonstrating its reliability in more than 400 buses. Whether in big cities, the forests of Brazil or the deserts of the United Arab Emirates, the ROADSTAR reliably ensures pleasant temperatures at all times.A cutaway model of the new reciprocating compressor will be available for viewing at the BITZER trade fair stand (Stand 110) at Busworld in Kortrijk from 18 to 23 October 2013. The ROADSTAR four and six-cylinder compressors are available with various displacements, ranging from 400 to 970 cubic centimetres.

From Training Straight Into Work as a Technician August 2013
Sindelfingen/Schkeuditz, August 8, 2013. Well-trained technical workers are worth their weight in gold. That is why BITZER Kühlmaschinenbau Schkeuditz GmbH has been training people regularly in-house for more than two decades. They have also made a tradition out of taking on trainees who have passed their exams
Since BITZER Kühlmaschinenbau Schkeuditz GmbH was founded in 1991, a hundred trainees have successfully completed apprenticeships there. Their hard work has paid off: so far, every single newly qualified technician has been offered a position – allowing them to move straight from training into professional life, something not always available at other companies.
This year the Schkeuditz piston compressor factory will be taking on three new young technicians: Bastian Große, Sebastian Hubrich and Michael Schmiel successfully completed their apprenticeships as industrial mechanics on July 4. All three of them finished their courses early because they had performed so well at college and in their practical work. Their careers at BITZER will continue in Mechanical Production and in Assembly, where, armed with permanent contracts, they can put into action the skills they have learned.
No fewer than 29 young people took the opportunity to train at BITZER Kühlmaschinenbau Schkeuditz GmbH over the past five years, giving them a head start in their careers. Counting the 12 apprentices currently on board, this makes the company one of the region’s largest companies that takes on trainees. It is a positive trend that is set to continue: six new trainees will begin their apprenticeships as industrial mechanics during the coming academic year, and the factory plans to take on eight trainees each year once its expansion is complete.
As it increases the number of trainees it takes on, the Schkeuditz factory will continue to offer attractive opportunities for technicians and engineers with the skills and qualifications required to convey technical knowledge to others, since with an increasing number of trainees, more teachers will also be required. With around 700 people working at its Schkeuditz piston compressor plant, BITZER is already the biggest employer in the administrative district of Nordsachsen (north Saxony).
BITZER Opens New Plant in Atlanta July 2013

• 130 employees in production and administration
• 9,000 sq m new building, already up and running
• Old company building now a training and development center
Sindelfingen/Atlanta, 07/11/2013. The BITZER Group held a ceremony at the start of June to inaugurate the company’s new Flowery Branch site in Atlanta (Georgia, USA). The facility produces semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors.
BITZER US, Inc. has been manufacturing products in Atlanta for the North American market since 2005. Growth in output has been very positive, with annual production levels increasing tenfold by 2012. Having reached its capacity, the company therefore decided to construct a new company building in the immediate vicinity of the existing factory. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in March 2012, and by the end of the year the machines in the new building were installed and commissioned.
“We are pleased to have production running under optimal conditions now,” says Honorary Senator Peter Schaufler (CEO), who took part in the official opening ceremony along with many high-ranking representatives from industry and politics. The 9,000 sq m factory was built on a 32,000 sq m plot of land belonging to BITZER US, Inc. where a total of 130 employees work to produce reciprocating compressors.
The short distance to the existing premises is a major advantage as here the company is establishing a training and development center. The old site is also used to manufacture pressure vessels as well as shell and tube heat exchangers.
BITZER supplies products for subcritical and transcritical applications to customers all around the world July 2013
OCTAGON CO2 semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor for transcritical applications
• CO2 is becoming an increasingly important refrigerant in commercial refrigeration technology worldwide
• Special demands on efficiency and reliability
• Customers from more than 30 countries attend CO2 training courses
Sindelfingen, July 8, 2013. For more than 15 years, the BITZER group of companies has been building up its experience in the development and manufacture of compressors for the refrigerant CO2 and now offers a comprehensive range of products for subcritical and transcritical applications. The first subcritical BITZER system in the USA has been running reliably and failure-free for five years.
The importance of CO2 refrigeration systems for subcritical and transcritical applications has risen in recent years and is set to keep rising. However, this growth has been at different speeds in different places, with Northern Europe and Australia taking the lead. BITZER turned its attention to this technology early on – launching products on the market to meet different requirements and constantly developing them. Their market share is growing not only in Europe but also in North America.
Supermarkets equipped with CO2 refrigeration systems
With its product portfolio, BITZER is among the established suppliers in the USA. Five years ago, they commissioned their first subcritical CO2 refrigeration system in a supermarket in Saratoga Springs, New York. The first system to feature transcritical CO2 compressors made by BITZER in the North American market has been up and running in a Canadian shopping mall for more than three years.
This system has been working fault-free ever since it was manufactured, an achievement that requires close cooperation between project partners during the planning, commissioning, and service phases. BITZER provides its partners with its global experience in the use of compressors, and it advises and trains customers in how to use compressors for subcritical and transcritical CO2 applications. In addition to our experts at our headquarters in Germany, application technicians in Canada, the USA, and Mexico are on hand to provide quick and expert assistance on location. Our compressors for subcritical and transcritical CO2 applications have UL certification, and as of this year our SL compressors are also being manufactured in Oakwood, Georgia. Production of compressors for transcritical applications is scheduled to begin there at the end of the year.
Compressors for subcritical and transcritical CO2 applications have to meet special safety, dependability, and efficiency requirements because of the particular characteristics of CO2 itself. Thermal loads, high operating pressures, and high specific refrigerating capacity combine to produce considerable forces and burdens on smaller components. BITZER has developed new standards over recent years in connection with subcritical and transcritical operation and by meeting requirements in the adaptation of its compressors’ performance.
Aside from being reliable, it also crucial that compressors are efficient with regard to energy. When it comes to assessing the environmental compatibility of alternative solutions, it is not just the primary CO2 emissions caused by escaping refrigerant that have to be taken into account; indirect emissions caused by the consumption of energy also have to be considered. BITZER compressors have reached a very high standard in this respect – one that is now considered a benchmark in the industry, as confirmed by ASERCOM certification, which so far only BITZER’s SL compressors have received in the CO2 application field. The Association of European Refrigeration Component Manufacturers is a conglomerate of leading European component manufacturers in the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigerating technology sector.
As well as developing and manufacturing CO2 compressors, BITZER focuses on comprehensive customer training. Regular training courses using functioning systems are held in its CO2 training centers in Rottenburg (Germany), Sydney (Australia) and São Paulo (Brazil). In Rottenburg alone, around 550 people from more than 30 countries have attended these courses since November 2010. The teachers provide both theoretical and practical basic knowledge about how to work with CO2 as a refrigerant. In the practical part of the course, they conduct highly realistic instruction on commissioning and troubleshooting in connected systems incorporating several evaporators. In addition to that, the teachers cover specific topics relating to BITZER products and CO2 applications.
Implementing a new technology in the market requires a balanced approach consisting of a comprehensive range of products, outstanding system characteristics, expert advice, and sound training. CO2 is one of many examples of this in the BITZER product portfolio.
BITZER is a sponsor of the WorldSkills 2013 July 2013
Part of one of the assembly lines at the BITZER factory in Schkeuditz
• BITZER is also a co-sponsor of the WorldSkills competitions
• The compressor specialist’s team of experts with information material at the event
Sindelfingen/Schkeuditz, July 12, 2013. Leipzig was the venue for the 42nd WorldSkills, the world’s largest and longest-standing international skills competition. 1,100 young skilled workers and trainees from 56 countries competed in 46 disciplines. With 2,000 experts and around 200,000 visitors, the WorldSkills 2013 in Leipzig surpassed even the competition held in London two years ago. As co-sponsor, BITZER ensured that the event for the promotion of international training and further education was a resounding success.
Together with the BIV, the ‘Bundesinnungsverband des Deutschen Kälteanlagenbauerhandwerks’ (National Federation of Refrigeration Engineering Contractors), BITZER sponsored the competition category ‘Refrigeration and air-conditioning’, in which 23 competitors from just as many countries took part. The most challenging of the three tasks set was the construction of a refrigeration system within a time limit of 16 hours. BITZER was also represented at the event by a team of experts with information material at the BIV stand on the trade fair site – amongst other things, with a cross-sectional view of a compressor.
Seventh place in the medallist rankings and the enormous enthusiasm at the event made the WorldSkills 2013 a complete success for the German team and everyone involved. BITZER is very pleased to report that young visitors in particular took advantage of the event to familiarise themselves with practical aspects of the many different careers that can be begun with vocational training courses. Numerous industry-related lectures offered opportunities to gather first-hand information and question experts on the spot.
BITZER also invited 31 visitors from various different countries to a tour of the company’s competence centre for reciprocating compressors in Schkeuditz. Several BITZER specialists accompanied the tour to answer the visitors’ questions. An extremely satisfied Frank Fuhlbrück, director of the facilities in Schkeuditz, summarised his impressions of the tour: ‘The international experts for refrigeration and air-conditioning who took part were all highly delighted about the tour. They were particularly fascinated by the production of the NEW ECOLINE reciprocating compressors. This new generation of the proven ECOLINE series of refrigerant compressors is employed, for instance, in cooling cabinets and freezers in supermarkets, in cold stores, condensing units and in the chemical industry, as well is in canteen kitchens, the pharmaceuticals segment and in high-temperature heat pumps.’

Lodam Electronics offers innovative controllers for integrating a variety of systems into a single network June 2013
The Lodam heat pump regulator provides full control over hot water and heating in order to create a pleasant atmosphere at home. The intelligent controller with frequency inverter is both energy and cost-efficient.
• New ventilation controller enables remote monitoring
• Smart grid-ready certification simplified for manufacturers of heat pumps
Sindelfingen/Sønderborg, June 26, 2013. More and more home systems are being integrated into a network and can be regulated using a single controller. At the ISH trade fair in Frankfurt, Lodam Electronics, a BITZER Group company, introduced its new ventilation controller, which also offers interesting options for remote monitoring and operating.
The number of integrated systems with heat pump, ventilation, solar thermal energy, and photovoltaics that can be regulated with a single controller is on the rise. Using Web server solutions, these systems can even be controlled, operated, and maintained remotely via the Internet. Like networking all of a house’s controllers for home automation, communication with the smart grid is also becoming more important.
Lodam Electronics, which specializes in control electronics for cooling, air conditioning, and heating systems, supports this process and makes it easier for system manufacturers to integrate their products into a single network. “We have simplified the smart grid-ready certification process for manufacturers of heat pumps, as our controller features all the required functions and can be used as a plug-and-play solution,” explains Sales Manager Carsten Pedersen.
The new ventilation controller presented by Lodam Electronics at ISH in Frankfurt can be combined with a heat pump, solar panels, and photovoltaics. It features a built-in Ethernet module with integrated Web server for external communication. The Web server solution not only allows end users to access their system remotely via a computer or smartphone, but also makes manufacturers of heat pumps and ventilation systems smart grid-capable.
But remote access isn’t the only benefit that extending the interface into the Internet provides: a Web server can easily be adjusted in line with the corporate design of a manufacturer and offers end customers a user-friendly interface. Lodam Electronics provided food for thought about the user interface and display of the future at ISH. The main question was: Is a display even necessary or is a smartphone app enough? “If OEM manufacturers choose a user panel, they should use it to stand out from the crowd. Individual display design that fits their company design line, that’s what we also offer our OEM customers,” explains Sales Manager Carsten Pedersen.
